Great Tunes: Matt Nathanson, "Some Mad Hope"

The first time I heard Matt Nathanson was last summer at a bar in Kanata... Out of all the places! His song “Come On Get Higher” was playing on satellite radio and I fell in love with it immediately. Back then I didn’t know who he was and I only knew a line or two of the lyrics. It took me until December to finally successfully Google the lyrics and find him… And it was worth the wait!

Matt Nathanson is from San Francisco, California.
“Some Mad Hope” is Matt’s second major label release. It is by far one of the best CDs I’ve heard in a while. The CD only has 12 tracks but it flows and every song sounds great. This is one of those CDs that I can put on repeat without skipping any songs. If you’re the kind of person who listens to The Fray, Jason Mraz or John Mayer, then you will like this album.

“Some Mad Hope” is not very well known and think that Matt will always be one of those quiet guys in the back rather than the next John Mayer. But if you are into television then I am sure you have heard a few of his songs. His songs have been featured in One Tree Hill, Scrubs, House, and my personal favourite, Gossip Girl.

Noticeable tracks on the album includes:

Car Crash
Come On Get Higher
Still
Heartbreak World

Here is Matt’s music video for “Come On Get Higher”. It is one of my current favourite songs. If you listen carefully, the intro has very similar chord changes as Dave Matthew’s “Crash Into Me” ;)
