Lookbook: Summer is gone, but I'm still here

It’s getting more fall and the weather is making my hair all limp. Ugh. My hair definitely has a mind of its own. According to a survey by Tresemme, an average woman spends approx $50,000 on her hair over her lifetime. The survey was further broken down saying we spend on average $160 on shampoos and conditioners, $120 on styling products and $520 on haircuts each year. For those that color their hair, add another $330 to your total cost.

That’s a lot for haircuts! I only spend about $25 on a haircut and I only get one every 4 months. But I do spend decent money on hair related things such as higher end hair products due to hair coloring and getting my hair chemically straightened. My hair is naturally straight but I like that I can just leave my house in the morning without brushing or blow drying my hair at all- It’s $250 per every 10 months I’m willing to pay to sleep in for an extra 10-15 minutes per day.

What about you? How much do you pay for a hair cuts and hair products? Do you color your hair and if so, do you do it yourself or go to a salon?

  3. hair...yes. i do spend about $25 on a cut too! but the hair products and treatment..uhm.. i dont account at all, or else my hair will start falling off and so does the husbands hair if we start listing down the things i do with it...funny, my hair is just all black and straight at that! haha.

  4. I always love your lookbook! and your bag and shoes are so cute :)

I don't spend much on hair products and only cut my hair like twice a year and I'm going to cut my hair soon :D!

  5. i spend a lot on my hair due to coloring, never tried dying my hair b4, i always go to the salon to get it done, but its so costly though!

  6. My mother cuts my hair, so that's free. I haven't colored my hair in 4 months now, but before that I'd dye my hair every 6 weeks, and it cost me 10-15$ for the box at Wal-Mart, I did it myself at home. For shampoo and conditioner, I really like Herbal Essence, which is cheap too. My hair straightener cost me 175$ but I just bought it 6 months ago and it's likely going to last me a few years as my previous one did.

Now though I got a question!

    Chemically straightened hair? WHERE? HOW?

My hair's naturally curly and I straighten it almost every day. I'd love to get out of the shower and not have to plug in my hair drying and flat iron! Would it work with my naturally curly hair?

Please shower me with your wisdom and knowledge!! Lol Thanks :)

  9. It depends how much money I have, when it comes to hair products. I really must get my hair cut soon, the state of me!

Great outfit. Loving your skirt. :)sarahD

  12. oh boy hair. hmmm... i spend $25/month on shampoo and conditioner, and because my hair grows at a glacial pace, i cut it bi-annually for $60? soo... ha, $30/year on haircuts? ugh. lamenting. (great seeing you yesterday! talk & hangouts soon!)

  15. I like your skirt!
And I don't know how much I spend on my hair.. But well, not that much I think! Sometimes I colour it, well, highlights, and a haircut every 2 or 3 months..

  16. This outfit is very cute! I get haircuts every 1.5 years for something like $15. I colour my hair with box dye maybe 3 times a year for $4 each time. I don't even bother using products ever besides shampoo and conditioner which probably sets me back $20 at most the entire year. Yay for cheap! xD

  17. Cute outfit! Love the skirt.

I spend about $290 every 4-5 months for a cut and highlights. I mostly use drugstore brand shampoos and conditioners like Pantene but use higher end products for styling and straightening cream.

    Have a great weekend : )

  18. Haircuts.... {*UGH} I think I spend about $30-40 on a haircut 2-3 times a year. I'm always lazy to get it cut cause I don't know what style I'd want and my goal recently was to just grow it out. That's alot of money to spend on hair in one year. Maybe I should keep a tab and see how much I personally spend.
I dyed my hair earlier this year on my own. Bought a box of Palty hair dye for less than $10. That was my first time I dyed my hair in 5-6 years. I think I don't spend THAT much on hair each year. I think I got through two or three bottles each of shampoo and conditioner each year. I'm guessing that would cost $120 at most. As for styling products I've had a bottle of biosilk oil for a year or so now and I haven't bought hair spray/ leave in conditioner for over a year or longer till yesterday. Hmm... I am really curious now how much I really do spend...

Your outfits are always amazing. Your shoes cause my eye. Probably because I haven't been able to wear close toed shoes recently. Flipped my toe nail a few weeks back. >.< OIY... I like the skirt as well. I need to find shoes that I can wear with dresses and skirts.

  21. You look so young today I felt like I did something wrong just by visiting--but that didn't keep me from appreciating that you look great. You're hair always looks good! My haircuts cost $14 and the place has a barber pole out front--swirling red, white and blue. My shampoo is whatever and my conditioner is Groom and Clean--just like my grandpa! =)

  22. YOU LOOK SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^ I just wanna hug you LOL

I cut my own hair and I don't use anything in my hair except for hair wax that i've been using once in 3 wks or so....i've had it for about a year and a half now. still got lots more. it cost like $6

I did get my hair highlighted 1 time for $85...UGH bad memories!! i thought this "friend" of mine was gonna do it for free - but ended up charging me ALONG with charging me for a haircut i had to fix myself!!! haircut + highlights = $115!!!!!!!!!! -____-" talk about getting suckered - bad 1st time experience in getting my hair highlighted! Also the first time I let someone cut my hair in a LONG LONG LONG time. I usually cut my own hair. LOL i'm glad that my theory works "cut your own hair, why pay someone to mess it up" definitely didn't refer any of my other friends to her.

  23. Love these pictures and your Oxford shoes.
This must be shocking to you, but I cut my hair myself, my bangs are a little demanding, I cut them every 2-3 weeks. And I have long hair so, it's easy to take care of the split dead ends without messing up. About coloring, I have my natural color, I've tried dying my hair in high-school but that didn't work out. So, I don't spend much money on my hair, I am so proud of myself now :))

  24. You look adorable. :) Wow, I can't believe that. I USE to cut, color AND highlight my own hair. I went to cosmetology school so I thought since I know how to do it, I'd do it on my own. Now I'm lazy and the past 2 years I've been getting my hair done at a salon. Cut and partial highlight for me is about $70. I do that about twice a year, once in the summer, once in the winter, in between I dye and cut my own hair. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  25. When I get my hair done, it's always a spectacle of time and money! It takes about 5 hours to do it and I'm out 200 dollars later!

Love this photoshoot! Thank you very much again!

  26. I love the heeled oxford booties! Hmm I get my hair cut 2-3 times a year and it's about $70 each time after taxes and tip.

  30. normally i just pay for haircuts until recently...argh. normally i get my hair cut every 3 months and it's about $60. recently i got my hair highlited and i'm sure i'm going to have to cut my hair more often now. it's a perpetuating cycle!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. HOLY SMOKES!!! thats a lot of money spent solely on hair! that's like one part of your body. i now see why they put so MANY ads on tv about hair products. customer equity is just too big to pass. anyway, numbers aside, you look great. i saw your dior makeup transformation too! gorgeous :)

if everyone looked like supermodels, i guess we wouldnt care that much on hair products. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not totally shocked by that number but it may fluctuate depending on where you live. (Haircuts in NY for example are pretty expensive.) Lynnie and I color our own hair using pro dyes but get cuts in the salon.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hey i really like your hair colour :)

  34. i really love your shoes and that you're wearing your own headband!

i pay about $150 to get my hair done at a salon about every three months, so yeah, it can get expensive. :)

  36. Oh my goodness!! I can't believe that. 50,000?!?!?! On second thought, I guess I could see that. I've never colored my hair, but know that it's very expensive to do so and maintain, so I guess I can see where big bucks would come into play. Even though I don't do color, I can be a total product junkie, so I'm probably creeping up there in lifetime hair expenses too!

    ReplyDelete
  37. i like how your skirt makes your outfit pop!
    cute : )

i personally don't spend a lot of money on getting my hair done. i get free hair cuts from my mom (she used to be a beautician), and i don't color or perm my hair. but i'm a bit of a product junkie.. i must have a bottle of intensive conditioner and a smoothing serum at hand lol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. When it comes to hair, I'm pretty cheap... lol~ I probably cut my hair once if lucky twice a year. :X I go to this cheap salon, $8 a cut... lol~ I don't do anything to my hair because it's super straight.

Have a good weekend yourself! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey :-)

Love those shoes and skirt!!! My hair is naturally wavy. I cut and style my own hair myself...well, with the help of mom it's cut perfectly. I use to go to the Beauty Shop until I realized they didn't know how to do REAL hair and wasn't licensed. Smh. Oh if I could go back and just start getting a revenge on them all by cutting their hair off I would ha, but that would be in my dreams, literally ha. We live and We learn....I didn't think I needed to learn that tho lol.

    Have a cool weekend :-)

  40. you look really pretty !
i dont spend much for my haircare.. my shampoo is just regular brands like herbal essences or pantene.. i get those big bottles which are even cheaper :)
i do spend on this hair tonic which helps thickens my hair (around $40).. as for haircuts, well i guess its cheap compared to what you pay in other countries..

my haircut costs around $65 .. i know in the states, canada, etc.. $65 is the amount you pay for a regular stylist bt here in indonesia $65 is considered quite expensive already and its the amount u pay for a high-end hairdresser who does magazine work like bazaar too !
haircuts can get as low as $5 here :)

tx for adding me to the blog roll :) i'll add u too !

  41. really dig that skirt and you look fab!

that's loads to spend on hair. i don't comb my hair and only recently started to condition it. apart from that i perm it twice a year (it's getting cheaper the more salons that i find) so that when i wake up i haven't slept away my natural curls.

  42. Hello! Yeah, totally feel the same way about Prom Night, I just wanted to see Idris Elba, that all.
Lol, the funny thing is, right after I wrote you that last comment, I opened up my Glamour magazine Oct issuse, && it said the new black is, black && white. Hmmm...

I cut my own hair, however I been getting it done at a hair cutting place, its like 12$, plus 3$ for the tip, 15$ total. && my last hair cut was on Nov 1st of last year, I am waiting until this Nov to get my hair cut again. Hair products, yearly I will say about, um 100$, && hair tools...Don't know. I got my chi last year, which was like 110$. I need a new curling iron, I am looking at the conair wand which I believe is 40$ at Ulta.

  44. Love the boots love!!

I spend around 100 bucks a year to chemically straighten my hair cos my hair is stubborn (and I usually do it when I am in Asia cos its much cheaper lol) and I only coloured my hair once (which resulted in a crazy allergic reaction) - so I haven't done much to it since then.

  52. Hey! Thank you so much for visiting my site and leaving a comment. :)

I love your outfit, most especially your shoes and skirt!

Anyway, I don't color my hair because I like it as it is. I do spend on haircuts. I don't choose cheap salons since I end up not liking the haircut and have another one. I go to the middle range salons. And yes, I spend a lot on shampoos and conditioners because I like trying different brands.

I spend more money on products than I do on the cuts. I only get about 4 or 5 cuts a year, but I spend oodles on the muck I put in it. Volumizers, texturizers, smoothers, oils, you name it, I've tried it.

  69. you look so cute! Love the skirt!
I just got my hair done! (for like... the second time this year) I don't think that statistic is right... but than again, it is on average. mine color and cute was AUD 108 ^^

  70. Looking gorgeous Hun!
Well, honestly now I just trimmed my own hair the past few times because my favourite hair stylist moved location and she's waaaay too far to get to now :( At first I did check out a few salons but I wasn't impressed. And I always get a basic layered trim anyways.
When I use to get my blonde highlights done and my hair trimmed, with tip and taxes it was always $180-$230 per session. Yes, per session. It was a pricey year for my hair but I trusted that hair stylist and she was the best for what I wanted. Too bad how she moved though. I swear, bonding with your hair stylist is really personal and I felt like I cheated on her when I started going to other hair stylists at first after she moved LOL

    ReplyDelete
  71. Interesting post. I only get about two haircuts a year, but I do spend quite a bit on styling products as well as shampoo and conditioner. If I had to guess --- maybe about $300 a year.
