Book Review: "Strutting It!" by Jeanne Beker

Do you want to be a model? Wouldn't it be nice to travel the world, wear clothes before they hit the stores, hang out with stars, and see yourself in magazines? Being a model is many girls' dream, but what does it take to be one?

Canadian Fashion Television host Jeanne Beker reveals it all in her book "Strutting It". Jeanne describes what it takes to be a model and provide steps on how to be a successful one. It takes not just a pretty face, but also a dynamic personality and a sense of style to set you apart. With a foreword by Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha, the book discuss the ups and downs of being a model, and reveals what it is really like behind the glamour and the camera.

This book is a good read for those that are curious about the modeling industry. It also serves as a guide for aspiring models. The pages are also packed with biographies of successful models as well Jeanne Beker speaks the hard truth without the fluff. It's an easy book to read and I recommend it for those looking for information on what the modeling world is really like.

Some memorable quotes from the book:

1. "The best models always manage to transcend any prejudices they may have, maintain a positive attitude, and morph into the fantasy that is best for the team" - P.39

2. "Vintage clothing and accessories also have great style appeal and are highly appreciated by just about everybody who works in fashion... Anyone with money can go into a fancy designer boutique and buy a hot new bag of a fabulous pair of shoes." -P.24

3. "It's important to have some sort of long-range goal in mind - even though that goal may change over time, morphing into something quite different." -P.59

4. "As with life, there's an awful lot of grit behind that glamour." - P.74

  2. I like the last quote. I don't think it's directly aimed just at models, but at everyone in general.

Although I'm not aspiring to be a model, I would like to know more about what models have to do. :]

  7. I'd love to attend this! it seems like a very interesting book, especially with the quote on page 24. that's exactly how I've felt about vintage clothing and accessories, and also how anyone could just go and pick up a "stylish" outfit out of the mannequin versus styling it your own way with something vintage. hope that made sense lol.

definitely want to read this book! great review Julie :)

  16. I have actually learned a lot about the modeling industry from watching "America's Next Top Model," which I know sounds totally stupid, but it gives you a cool inside look. I think a lot of people assume they could be models because "all models are stupid" or whatever, but that's bullshit. It takes a lot to be a good, successful model.

  21. That sounds like such an fascinating book.. It would be very interesting to see what all she, and other models, have to say about the industry.. I think that the competition in the modeling world would be too tough for me, and I would have to loose a lot of weight too!
