Designer Spotlight: Ica Watermelon

Ica Watermelon is a ready to wear womenswear line designed by Julia Knupfer base from Berlin. It is an eco friendly high fashion line that features natural material such as organic cotton, silk, linen and wool.

The line is known to feature some out standing handmade knitting pieces while every piece in the collection is socially-conscious. I recently had a chance to chat with Julia about her creations and this is what she had to say:

What can we expect from your showcase at Toronto Alternative Fashion Week?
I will be showcasing my latest winter collection. It will have a mixture of prints and elements. The collection is extremely wearable yet each piece is dynamic and unique in their own way.

What is your favourite material to use when you create your pieces?
I love using wool as it lets me be more creative and versatile compare to other fabrics.

Since you live in Berlin, can you tell us Canadians what the fashion world is like there?
There are more and more young and innovative designers, each are creative and very innovative. Berlin is becoming one of the centers of attention for fashion as the fashion week here attract people from all over the world.

What is your favourite part of being in the industry?
I love to try and execute new concept and I'm always excited to see how they turn out. I love playing with different combinations of patterns and materials and enjoy the whole designing process in general, and of course I enjoying showcasing my creations!

What do you do in your spare time?
I love checking out different architectures especially with my sister and I love looking through home magazines at different furniture designs.

  13. I love the second look, but all of her clothes are amazing. I like how she is flexible and tries out different styles for her collections. I love designers that are daring and don't blend in just so they can sell their items.
