Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest 2011 Recap

a morning jacket

The annual Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest is the biggest local event every summer. Bluesfest consist musicians of various genre performing outdoor for two weeks. It's a celebration of music as well the summer in the country's capital. But just make sure you keep your crap together for nights you go (literally), unless you don't mind using the porta potty and look like a constant Nicky Minaj face after you come out.

Other than The Tea Party, another highlight of the festival include Mother Mother, a band base in Vancouver, who demonstrated their vocal ability throughout the night hitting those high notes. A number of Mother Mother shirts were seen throughout the crowd worn by a mixed of hipter and punk audiences. Everyone there raved at "Arms Tonite" and "Body of Years" when it was performed.

Emily Haines from Metric is as pretty in real life as she is on TV. The group attracted the crowd right away with "Sick Muse" and "Gimmie Sympathy". Emily ran back and forth the stage keeping a contact with the crowd throughout the performance. Metric has been a regular performer at Bluesfest since 2005 and Emily says they wouldn't have it otherwise.

As for watching Mr. Disney Nick Jonas & The Administration perform... I would have fell into a snoring coma if it wasn't for some 12 year old fan girl with their high pitch scream every few minutes. I mean, the heart felt songs touched me so much that it almost put me into a snoring coma of Disney dreams. Yeah, that must have been it...

Overall I was impressed with Bluesfest this year. Sure, one of the stage fell down in a midst of a thunderstorm like a Lindsay Lohan on a Saturday night, but no one was seriously injured so I say the festival is still a success.
