Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest 2011: The Tea Party

When people say "tea party" I usually associate it with ridiculous hats and strawberries. But the Canadian band "The Tea Party" is the exact opposite.

Watching The Tea Party perform at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest brought me back to my university days of ending up in a trashy strip joint watching Pamela Anderson look alikes on a pub crawl. At Bluesfest, the crowd for The Tea Party was older compared to the Billy Talent stage next door. But the enthusiasm was a continuous high throughout the show.

The band opened with "Writing On The Wall" which had everyone pumped. The highlight of the night was when they performed "Heaven Coming Down" where the crowd echoed the lyrics. The guys might have been brokem up for a few years but their performance successfully brought the 90's "Big Shiny Tunes" era back.

Meanwhile, Billy Talent was rocking one of the other stages. It sounded more like Kermit the Frog or Christian Bale throwing a tantrum. But hey, different strokes for different folks- and he did have the crowd going wild and that is the important thing.
