Chichen Itza, Mexico

Things I learned in Chichen Itza located in Mexico:
1. The Mayans believe that every beginning has an end, then the end loops back to the beginning again. It was modern superstition of the Mayan calendar that we thought civilization would end in 2012.
2. The origin of the Mexico flag: The Aztec legend has it that their Gods told them to build a city where they spot an eagle eat a serpent, and comes Mexico City.

It was amazing to actually be in the ball game stadium where the Mayans sacrifice the captain of the losing team to the Gods. I was so fascinated with that stuff when I was young.

  6. Ahh, Chichen Itza is easily in my top 5 places I need to visit! I was obsessed with the Mayans too when I was younger, and still am, I just love ancient history! The photos are beautiful & it must have been so awe-inspiring standing at the bottom of the huge pyramids.

  11. It reminds me of a place in the movie that looks like the one with stairs *forgot the title, about sacrificing babies, they throw them to a chute or something from the top. That was freaking scary! Nice pictures! Love the wooden masks =)

  13. They actually referenced that legend of Mayans sacrificing the losers in this super cute cartoon, Joureny to El Dorado, which I watched on repeat time after time - and I still do when I need a few laughs!

  15. Lovely photos! I see they've cordoned off the temple - I remember being able to climb up it and the breath taking view at the top. It's too bad they've done that, but completely understand as it better preserves the ruins.
