Easy Chili

I love chili and I'm a huge fan of ground beef. I know, red meat is bad for you, carcinogens, bla bla bla, thanks Doctor Oz, health magazines, mom, yadda yadda. It's still healthier than smoking or drinking. Just saying.

In the past every time I make chilli it turns into runny tomato paste. Then I worked in a restaurant and saw them putting flour into their creamy soup to thicken it. So, I did the same with my runny chili and problem solved!

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 green pepper and 1 red pepper
a can of kidney beans
a can of tomato paste
2 1/2 teaspoons of chilli paste
1 clove garlic, minced
1 bay leaf

fry the ground beef, throw all the ingredients into the slow cooker, add flour and stir until most of the liquid has been absorbed. Leave it in the slow cooker on low for 3 hours and you're done!

Here I added a bed of romaine lettuce, cheese and avocado on the side to make it more salady. It makes the meal more light so I don't pass out in a coma after lunch.

  5. Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to try this out except with ground turkey since I don't eat red meat.

  6. I don't think red meat is bad as it's made out to be. What REALLY is bad, I think, is just what we do with the cows, injecting them with hormones and junk that makes red meat "bad" :P

This reminds me of those onions we ate in Mexico...what were the ingredients again - onion, pepper, and gahhh...what was the third one? SO GOOODDD

  7. I actually had chili last night! I don't eat beef, so I used ground turkey! It is healthier and tastes just as yummy, I suggest you give it a try! And I will have to give that flour trick a try! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Yum!

We don't have a slow cooker, so in the winter I make chili on the stove in a stockpot. I'll add broth (beef if it's beef chili, chicken if it's turkey chili) and bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for an hour and skim the fat off as it rises to the surface. That way the chili is packed with protein and nutrients but has very little fat.

  15. I'm addicted to chilli. In fact I made a huge pan last night. Boyfriend was playing some Space game, so I took advantage from his zombie trance and ate everything all by myself. I felt sick afterwards, but it was darn worth it.
Never knew aboutthe flower thing, gonna try it for sure!
